The greatest team to ever play the game
The horn sounded, the crowd went nuts, fireworks could be seen for miles. We had just won. As I was carried off the court by the groupies, I realized this is what life is all about. Free t-shirts, a congrats from the SportsOhio manager, and our instant rise to celebrity status are minor details when compared to the pride one feels when they are the best.
Of course I am talking about the Wednesday night Co-rec Columbus SportsOhio Dodgeball league - fall session. As the #1 seed and huge Vegas favorite, we flirted with disaster in the first playoff match. 9 minutes in with only 6 minutes to play, our team was down 2 games to 0. Could the Yankees of SportsOhio Dodgeball go down in round one? No. Destiny was on our side.
Despite having only 5 1/2 people (5 guys, 1 girl) when allowed to play 7 (all guys), we dominated the last 6 minutes and in a match already designated an ESPN Instant Classic, we pulled a victory right out of our ass. It was at that moment, the rest of the field knew, if we were going to lose it was then…

If you were listening to the next 2 matches on radio instead of watching it on TV, you would assume our players were 8 feet tall, had 6 arms, and had actual cannons attached to our shoulders. As the horn sounded in a match well in hand, you could see on the faces of the competition “Wow, our best game couldn’t have beaten these guys. Perhaps we should quit, we’ll never be the best”
Now, as the undisputed AP ranked #1 team, with the virtual trophy in hand, will the team retire, or grace the SportsOhio with another session?
